Honolulu, Hawaiʻi – The House of Representatives continues its series of public informational briefings Oct. 27 as part of our continuing effort to gather and disseminate critical information on government plans and initiatives underway to respond to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

House Intrastate Commerce Committee Informational Briefing will update:

(1) the status of the State of Hawaiʻi's eviction moratorium and nonpayment of rent;

(2) current issues faced by renters and landlords under the eviction moratorium;

(3) the status of available rent relief programs; and

(4) anticipated impacts to renters and landlords when the eviction moratorium is lifted.

Reports will be presented by:

  • University of Hawaiʻi Economic Research Organization (UHERO) Dr. Philip Garboden, Assistant Professor

  • Hawaiʻi State Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs (DCCA) - Office of Consumer Protection (OCP) Stephen Levins, Executive Director

  • Hawaiʻi State Department of Business and Economic Development (DBEDT) - Hawaiʻi Housing Finance & Development Corporation (HHFDC) Janice Takahashi, Chief Planner

  • Aloha United Way John Fink, Chief Executive Office

  • Catholic Charities Hawaii Robert “Rob” Van Tassell, Chief Executive Officer & President

No public testimony will be accepted.

The weekly briefings will continue through the end of the year. Upcoming briefing topics include the State’s COVID-19 Vaccination Plan and the State’s Safe Travels and Tourism Re-opening Plan.
