REPRESENTATIVES KITAGAWA, MATAYOSHI SPONSOR ANNUALWINDWARD COMMUNITY DRIVE-THRU FLU SHOT CLINIC

Kāne‘ohe, Hawaiʻi – Representatives Lisa Kitagawa and Scot Z. Matayoshi are sponsoring their 5th Annual Community Drive-Thru Flu Shot Clinic at Windward Community College on Saturday, September 7, 2024. Flu shots will be administered on a first-come, first-served basis by Times Pharmacy at the campus from 9 a.m. to noon.

Residents interested in getting a flu shot are asked to bring their insurance card, including insurance cards for children, as well as photo identification. The regular flu shot is $62.50 for those who do not have insurance, but most insurance plans cover all or nearly all of the cost. Senior doses will also be available at the clinic for kūpuna. All attendees are encouraged to wear a mask.

"This year, we are excited to host our 5th annual flu shot clinic to provide our Windward community with a convenient and safe way to protect their ‘ohana," said Representative Matayoshi (D-49, Kāne‘ohe, Maunawili.) "We encourage residents to sign up to protect themselves and those around them this flu season."

Parents are also encouraged to bring their keiki, 3 years of age and older, to this drive-thru flu shot event. With the school year starting, the flu shot provides parents with a great way to keep their children and families safe.

"Access to healthcare is critical to keeping our residents and community safe and protected," said Representative Kitagawa (D-48, Kāne‘ohe, ‘Āhuimanu, Kahalu‘u, Waiāhole, Ka‘a‘awa.) "Mahalo to Times Pharmacy and Windward Community College for making this event possible each year."

Additional Information:

Times Pharmacy contracts with all major insurance providers (HMA, HMAA, HMSA, Kaiser,

UHA, TRICARE, PSWA, Hawaiʻi Laborers Union, Medicare, and Quest). Most insurance providers cover the entire cost of the flu vaccine with $0 copay, but there are some cases where the vaccine wouldn't be covered 100%. Union insurance policies may require a small copay of the total cost of the flu vaccine.

Times will invoice the clinic participant if they do have a copay. Times will also be providing

senior dose shots for those 65 years of age and older. If the clinic participant's insurance does not cover the flu vaccine, the cash price for the regular vaccine is $62.50 and $112.50 for the senior dose shot. Please note that unfortunately, due to the end of the Federal Emergency Use Authorization (EUA), Times is unable to accept Quest Insurance for anyone 18 years of age and under.

Although receiving the flu shot will not protect you from COVID-19, it has been proven to

reduce the risk of flu illness, hospitalization, and death. Additionally, getting a flu shot can also save healthcare resources for the care of patients suffering from COVID-19 or other emergency health needs.
